W: Your library books are due on December 13th. If you have not finished using them by then, you may renew them once.
M: Thank you very much . I only need them for a few days.
Q: When must the man return his books to the library?
W: Do you live in a college dormitory?
M: Yes, I do. It s a sixman suite, but at the moment only four of us live there.
Q: How many people share the suite now?
M: I need to cash this check?
W: Will you step right over to the teller s window, please?
Q:Where is the conversation most probably taking place?
4.否定类:此类对话既可以含有not, no, neither, nor等否定词, 也可以含有but, although等转折词, 或由would rather, too...to结构及虚拟语气等表达。
M: Ann, do you have any extra money you could loan me?
W: I wish I could help you. I went shopping yesterday. Now I have only two dollars till the end of the week.
Q: Will the man borrow any money from the woman?
I wish I could help you. I m sorry I can t help you.
又如:
(1)M:Tom must be joking when he said he plans to sell his shop and go to medical school.
W:You are quite right! He s just kidding! He s also told me time and time again he wished to study for some profession instead of going into business.
Q:What will Tom probably do according to the conversation?
(2)W:I hear your boss has a real good impression of you,and he is thinking about giving you two more days off each month.
M:I hope not.I d rather get more work hours I can get enough bucks to help out my two kids at college.
Q:What does the man truly want?
M: Good evening, Madam. There is a table for two over there. This way, please.
W: Thank you. Could I see the menu, please?
Q: What s the relationship between the man and woman?
(1)W: Are you going to New York next weekend?
M: Yes, I m going to look up Bill while I m there.
Q: What s the man going to do?
(2)W: Jim,you are on the net again! We are going to get off.It s time for the talk show!
M:Just a minute dear!I m looking at a new jewelry site.I want to make sure I get the right gift for mom s birthday.
Q:What is the man doing right now?
1.I d like to/I d love to, but...
—The students English club is having a party on Saturday night. Can you come?
—I would like to, but I work at a restaurant on weekends.
又如:
—Shall we eat in the school diningroom tonight?
—I d like to, but the Western food doesn t agree with me.Let s go to a Chinese restaurant for a change.
—If the traffic wasn t so bad, I could have been home by 6∶00.
—What a pity! John was here to see you.(意思是如果早到家的话, 就可以见到约翰了, 但是事实是因为交通堵塞, 没能及时回家。)又如:
—Do you like physics?
—Well, I wish it were interesting.(意思是事实上对物理一点也没有趣。)
—I need a bike today, but mine has a flat tyre.
—I m sorry to hear that.I would have lent you if Bill hadn t taken it away.(意思是不能借给你。)
3.I m sorry, ...。
—Hello, may I speak to John Smith, please?
—I m sorry, nobody by that name works here.
—Would you like to go mountain climbing with us?
—That s the last thing in the world I want to do.(字面意思是:爬山是这世界上我最后想做的事, 反过来讲就是根本不想去爬山。)
—I heard Tom was the man who robbed Mr.Smith s house.
—But I think he is the last one to do such a thing.(意思是他根本不可能做这件事。)
5.anything but句型。
—Everyone is helping out with dinner. Could you make the soup?
—Anything but that.(意思是我不可能做汤。)
—You re not much of a rock and roll fan, are you?
—It s far from being my favorite kind of music, that s for sure.(这里的be far from短语意思是“远非”, 可理解为“这根本不是我所喜欢的音乐”。)
—Can you possibly lend me $10 until payday?
—It s out of the question.(这里整个对话的理解就取决于对out of the question这个短语的理解, 而通过以往的知识我们知道它的意思是“不可能的”, 因此这里应理解为“我不可能借给你”。)
1.Why don t you/Why not...?
—John, I don t know what to get for your father. He has just have everything, doesn t he? Do you have any suggestions?
—Why don t you get him a pocket calculator?
2.Do you mind...?问句的回答用No, of course not.或者Not at all.
—Do you mind if I borrow your note?
—No, of course not. They are on my desk.(从侧面讲对方可以使用其笔记。)
3.not...until...
—When can the doctor see me?
—He won t be free until tomorrow.(意思是直到明天才能见你。)
4.not...more/better
—I think it s high time we turned our attention to the danger of drunk driving now.
—I can t agree with you more. You see countless innocent people are killed by drunk drivers each year.(意思是说后者非常同意第一人的观点)
—How is your business, Bob?
—Sales have never been better.(意思是说生意相当不错。)
5.Without a doubt;Don t mention it;No problem
—Do you think we have to review the Chapterof Industrial Revolution?
—Without a doubt, it will be on the exam.
—Do you think you could have this skirt ready by Thursday morning?
—No problem. You can come and fetch it.
6.由一些除not和never之外的否定词如hardly, seldom , scarcely, rarely等构成的句型。
—What a surprise!Tim has improved his English so much after a holiday abroad.
—I can hardly hear an accent.(意思是几乎听不出有任何地方口音。) 二、问题类型六级听力考试的问题一般都是所谓“WhQuestion”提问, 即由疑问代词what, who(whom), which和疑问副词when, where, why, how等来引导一个问句。
What conclusion can you draw from the woman s /man s statement?
What do we learn from the conversation?
What can we learn from the passage?
What is the passage mainly about?
What does the passage mainly tell us?
What did the woman/man intend to do?
What will the woman/man do firstly?
What can we infer from the passage?
What does the last sentence of the passage mean?
What s the man s attitude towards the camping?
What did the man do shortly after his graduate?
What s the woman/man in the passage?
When does the man/woman want to leave?
What time is it now?
When does the man/woman need the room?
When does the class/lecture/meeting begin?
When does the bus/plane leave?
如:not...until..., after, before, then, early, ahead of, later, delay, slow, fast, left, away等。
Where do the man/woman prefer to live?
Where does the conversation most probably take place?
Where will Fred be at 4∶30?
Where does the man live before 1970?
Where are the man s glasses?
(2)特别注意不同介词表达的地点的不同, 最常见的如:in, on, at, under, above, behind, beside, near, next, over等。
如:open an account一般是在银行, show me the menu一般在餐馆, take one s temperature是在医院等。
How does the man/woman feel about...?
How did the man solve the problem?
How many, How much, How old, How long等引导的提问。
Why
Why does the woman/man...?
Who和Which引导的问题
Who is the man/woman?
Who do you think the woman is?
Who will work for the company?
Who would the man/woman help?
Which one does the man are to take?
Which of the following is true/NOT true according to the passage?
Which one is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A.Satisfied.B.Tired.
C.Interested.D.Discouraged.
W:Jane is so disappointed. She was expecting Bob to bring fresh fish for tonight s dinner.
M:Too bad, but the waves were so high that Bob didn t even try to go out on the lake.
Q:What had Bob intended to do?
A.Go fishing.B.Go shopping.
C.Eat out.D.Buy fish.
On entering the sitting room the mother says to her children “The newspaper is all over the floor.”
M:I m in big trouble, Jane. I need some cash badly but I haven t the slightest idea where I m going to get it.
W:I m glad to hear that—I was afraid for a minute you might have an idea that you could borrow it from me.
Q:What does the woman mean?
A.She doesn t want to lend the man any money.
B.She is glad that the man is in big trouble.
C.She can show her favor by having an idea to get the cash.
D.She hopes the man can only borrow the money from her.
(1)W:Just look at this newspaper!Nothing but murder, death and war!Do you still believe people are basically good?
M:Of course I do!But newspapers hardly ever report stories about peace and generosity. They are not news!
Q:What do we learn from the conversation?
A.The man is generous with his good comments on people.
B.The woman is unsure if there will be peace in the world.
C.The woman is doubtful about newspaper stories.
D.The man is quite optimistic about human nature.
(2)M:I heard you took a trip to Mexico last month. How did you like it?
W:Oh,I got sick and tired of the hotel and hotel food!So now I understand the thing:East, west, home s best!
Q:What does the woman mean?
A.She was exhausted from her trip.
B.She missed the comforts of home.
C.She was impressed by Mexican food.
D.She will not go to Mexico again.
There is Bill on his motorcycle. Did he take it to the garage to fixed? There is something wrong with Bill s motorcycle. Don t be silly, that would have been a waste of money. It only had a flat tire.
W:Jack must have been joking when he said that he was going to quit his job.
M:Don t be too sure. He told me that he was trying to sell his house.
Q:What conclusion does the man want us to make?
A.He doesn t believe that Jack will sell the house.
B.He believes that Jack was joking.
C.He agrees to what the woman said.
D.He believes that Jack will quit his job.
W:I m worried about Anna. She s really been depressed lately. All she does is staying in her room all day.
M:That sounds serious! She d better see a psychiatrist at the counseling centre.
Q:What does the man suggest Anna do?
A.Cheer herself up a bit.
B.Find a more suitable job.
C.Seek professional advice.
D.Take a psychology course.
W:We now interrupt our regular scheduled news program to bring you live uptodate coverage on the civil unrest in the newly formed country of Karmak, where our man Stan Fielding is stationed. Stan...
M:This is Stan Fielding reporting live from the suburbs of the capital city. Just 20 minutes ago, Rebel forces launched the biggest offensive against the ruling government in the 18month conflict here in this country.
W:Now Stan, is this a sign that the peace process has been totally abandoned?
M:Well, so far, peace negotiations have failed, and any resolution to end the civil war appears bleak at this moment. As you can see... whoa.
W:Stan, Stan, are you there?
M:Uh, yes, Shelly, as you can probably hear behind me, rebel forces are also using heavy artillery to pound the positions of government forces around the city center. Rebel forces are closing in, and it s feared that they will be able to take the capital building before daybreak where, it is believed, many government officials are holding out.
W:Now, besides the heavy fighting, what other pressing concerns are there for the citizens of the city?
M:Well, since the beginning of the conflict, starvation, and lack of clean water and adequate shelter have been the biggest daily obstacles facing the citizens of this wartorn country. It is believed that over 40,000 people, mostly children, have starved to death. Fortunately, no epidemics have broken out, but that is always a concern if this war lingers on.
W:Okay, that was Stan Fielding reporting. And we will keep you tuptodate as this story continues to unfold.
W:Morning. Can I help you?
M:Well, I m not rally sure. I m just looking.
W:I see. Well, there s plenty to look at it again this year. I m sure you have to walk miles to see each stand.
M:That s true.
W:Er..., would you like a coffee? Come and sit down for a minute, no obligation.
M:Well, that s very kind of you, but...
W:Now, please. Is this the first year you ve been to the fair, Mr....
M:Yes, Johnson, James Johnson.
W:My name s Susan Carter. Are you looking for anything in particular, or are you interested in computers in general?
M:Well, actually, I have some specific jobs in mind. I owe a small company, we ve grown quite dramatically over the past 12 months, and we really need some technological help to enable us to keep on top of everything.
W:What s your line of business, Mr. Johnson?
M:We re a training consultancy.
W:I see. And what do you mean “to keep on top”?
M:The first thing is correspondence. We have a lot of standard letters and forms. So I suppose we need some kind of word processor.
W:Right. Well, that s no problem. But it may be possible for you to get a system that does a lot of other things in addition to word processing. What might suit you is the MR5000. That s it over there! It s IBM compatible.
M:What about the price?
W:Well, the MR5000 costs 1,050 pounds. Software comes free with the hardware.
M:Well, I ll think about it. Thank you.
W:Here s my card. Please feel free to contact me.
1.A.At a fair.
B.At a cafeteria.
C.In a computer lab.
D.In a shopping mall.
2.A.The latest computer technology.
B.The organizing of an exhibition.
C.The purchasing of some equipment.
D.The dramatic changes in the job market.
3.A.Data collection.
B.Training consultancy.
C.Corporate management.
D.Information processing.
Q1.Where did the conversation take place?
Q2.What are the speakers talking about?
Q3.What is the man s line of business?
M:Hi, Anna! Welcome back! How s your trip to the States?
W:Very busy. I had a lot of meetings, so, of course, I didn t have much time to see New York.
M:What a pity! Actually, I have a trip there myself next week.
W:Do you? Then take my advice, do the wellbeing in the air program. It really works.
M:Oh, I read about that in a magazine. You say it works?
W:Yes, I did the program on the flight to the States, and when I arrived at New York, I didn t have any problem, no jet lag at all. On the way back, I didn t do it, and I felt terrible.
M:You re joking!
W:Not at all, it really meant a lot of difference.
M:En. So what did you do?
W:Well, I didn t drink an alcohol or coffee, and I didn t eat any meat or rich food. I drink a lot of water, and fresh juice, and I ate the noodles on the wellbeing menu. They re lighter. They have fish, vegetables, and noodles, for example, and I did some of the exercises of the program.
M:Exercises? On a plane?
W:Yes. I didn t do many, of course, there isn t much space on a plane.
M:How many passengers do the exercises?
W:Not many.
M:Then how much champagne did they drink?
W:A lot! It was more popular than mineral water.
M:So, basically, it s a choice. Mineral water and exercises, or champagne and jet lag.
W:That s right! It s a difficult choice.
So,basically,it s a choice.Mineral water and exercises,or champagne and jet lag.
1.A.$120.B.$108.C.$90.D.$40.
M:I ll have these shoes. Please tell me how much I owe you.
W:They are $40 a pair and three pairs make a total of $120. But today we offer a 10% discount.
Q:How much does the man have to pay?
$40 a pair指40美元一双, make a total of $120指总计120美元, a 10% discount意为打10%的折扣。
2.A.8∶00B.8∶30
C.9∶00D.9∶30
W:Does your class start at 8∶00 every morning?
M:No. On Wednesday it doesn t start until 8∶30 and on Friday not until 9:00.
Q:What time does the man s class start on Thursday?
答案为A。
3.A.7∶15pm.B.6∶45pm.
C.7∶05pm.D.7∶25pm.

W:Well, it s new this semester. It s only open to psychology majors. But I bet it ll catch on elsewhere. Yesterday over a hundred students signed up.

M:Don t you ever have to meet with your professor?
