库存现金限额是指为保证各单位日常零星支付按规定允许留存的现金的最高数额。库存现金的限额，由开户行根据开户单位的实际需要和距离银行远近等情况核定。其限额一般按照单位3-5天日常零星开支所需现金确定。远离银行机构或交通不便的单位可依据实际情况适当放宽，但最高不得超过15天。
一个单位在几家银行开户的，由一家开户银行核定开户单位库存现金限额。凡在银行开户的独立核算单位都要核定库存现金限额；独立核算的附属单位，由于没有在银行开户，但需要保留现金，也要核定库存现金限额，其限额可包括在其上级单位库存限额内；商业企业的零售门市部需要保留找零备用金，其限额可根据业务经营需要核定，但不包括在单位库存现金限额之内。
企业现金的收入、支出和保管都应由出纳人员或指定的专门人员负责办理。企业的一切现金收支，都必须取得或填制原始凭证，作为收付款项的书面证明。例如，企业向银行提取现金时，要签发现金支票，以“支票存根”作为提取现金的证明；将现金存入银行，要填写解款单，以银行退回的“解款单回单”作为收款的证明；支付零星小额的开支，以发票作为付款的证明；收入小额销售货款，以销售部门开出的“发货票副本”作为收款的证明；支付职工差旅费的借款，应以有关领导批准的“借款单”作为付款的证明；发放职工困难补助费，要以“领款单”作为付款的证明等等。
